PLUS GALLERY ARTISTS RECOGNIZED IN BEST OF WESTWORD

Every year the Westword Weekly newspaper gives out awards to what they consider to be all the best that the community has to offer. Of course it's a broad ranging issue, one that perhaps waters down the concept of awards. Nevertheless, in the category of art there is one single award that we consider to be the actual "Prize" of the bunch, and we are pleased to announce that for the second year in a row we have received that award. The winner of the Best Solo Artist Show for 2006 has been given to none other than Colin Livingston for last year's "Palette's, Patterns, Logos, and Slogans."

Though we get excited about all of our exhibitions, Livingston truly pulled out all the stops in creating a memorable, glorious body of work that was more engaging than anything that has possibly ever been shown in a commercial gallery in Denver. Not only was it a historically memorable exhibition, but the concept and work itself will resonate for a long time, as the very nature of the paintings challenges the very dictates of authorship and what painting is today. We give a huge congratulations to Colin for his award and thank all who have supported his efforts both last year and in the past, he is truly deserving of star-status.

We would also like to note that several other Plus Gallery artists were recognized in the Westword for other award categories. Karen McClanahan and Bruce Price were part of the group exhibition "Directions in Abstraction" which was held at Edge Gallery and received the nod for Best Group Show. Several of our artists including Price, John McEnroe, Susan Meyer, and Patti Hallock were part of the MCA "Decades of Influence" exhibition which was noted as a "Best Recent-history Show." And finally, for a second time from Westword, Jon Rietfors was noted for his inclusion in the Center for Visual Arts recent exhibition Real: Photographic Constructs with the award "Best Showcase of Photography Trends."

Once again, we are thrilled that the gallery and our artists are consistently leading the pack when it comes to being critically recognized for their artwork and efforts.
