Renowned artist McKay Otto on view at + gallery
+ gallery is proud to unveil the latest body of work by renowned artist McKay Otto. Currently working out of Houston, Texas, Otto has been both a sculptor and a painter for over thirty years. Examining the properties of light and space, he delves conceptually into areas previously explored by likes of Larry Bell and other American Minimalists of the 1960s. Where Bell pursued the three-dimensional, compartmental aspects of light and space, Otto challenges the viewer with a new vantage, a new perspective furthering Bell’s previous pursuits in a two-dimensional context. The work fundamentally is about the reflection of light, a subtle quality that nonetheless is an intrinsic property of nature. Through what the artist calls trans-dimensional, Otto has created a series of white paintings that exude an ephemeral nature and depth that is typically obsolete in the minimalist genre. Never before has the style been pushed beyond the likes of Rothko and Martin. McKay will be in town until March 4th, and is available by appointment through the gallery. We encourage the public to come meet him at the artists reception next friday evening, March 4th from 6-9pm.
