COLBERT AND COSTELLO COMMENCE 2008 EXHIBITION SCHEDULE THIS SATURDAY JANUARY 25th

Danger surrounds us at all times, at least that's what Evan Colbert and Dana Costello might have us believe through two entirely synergistic bodies of work that bring Plus Gallery full throttle into the new year 2008. Evan Colbert returns in full force to the gallery for the fourth time since 2002 with a new body of work that hammers away at societies graphic conventions. "Safety First" takes a deep look at the use of symbols and familiar forms that filter through the national psyche, continuing in the vein of his spectacular "Stop-sign" series of 2007. Alongside Colbert is the first full body of work Plus Gallery has presented by artist Dana Costello. Costello's stark portraits of uniformed youth set against solid masses of color have been compared to the work of Henry Darger, receiving much acclaim as evinced by her appearance in the 2006 Western Edition of New American Paintings and her more recent inclusion in the New York Times Magazine. Both Colbert and Costello utilize simple graphic compositions and a sense of foreboding playfulness to bring their deeper artistic messages to the fore. Plus gallery will host a collectors preview on Friday, January 25th from 6-8pm, and the exhibition will go on view to the public the following Saturday, January 25th and remain on view until March 1st. An artists reception will take place on Friday, February 1st from 6-9pm and should prove to be one of the most vibrant nights ever at the gallery for reasons we can't even begin to tell you.
