HAPPY THANKSGIVING 2007 FROM PLUS+GALLERY
As the year winds down we have very much to be thankful for, mostly for the support from our clients and the art community for continually recognizing the value in the artists we represent and the exhibitions we work very hard to produce. Each year we gain more confidence in our program and a vision that pulls no punches. Balance is not easy to achieve but through dedication, risk and a terrific stable of artists, we've managed to continue unabated with ever greater prospects on the horizon.
2007 started with a fantastic journey to Art Miami, our first opportunity to put our efforts in front of an audience completely unaware of our gallery and the artists we exhibit. It was a mixed bag, we realized quickly that the January marketplace in Miami suffered greatly due to the Basel showcase one month prior each year in December. Our strong showing nevertheless proved to be crucial for our next step, a trip in two weeks to revisit Art Miami. Once again we've been invited back to participate in the "Slice" section of the fair, only this year Art Miami is revamped and strategically positioned to take place during one of the worlds largest and most prestigious art events alongside Miami Basel. It should prove to be another truly memorable journey and one that we look forward to sharing at the end of the year with everyone.
The year took on new dimensions in other incredible ways as Karen and I anticipated and finally gave birth to our son Udo, he is now almost six months old and an absolute delight. Udo has inspired us and artists in the community in equal measures, within his first month he was photographed by astounding local photographer John Bonath for a triptych as part of his most recent, soon to be completed body of work. Plus+gallery artist Wes Magyar also just finished a portrait of Udo, capturing this wonderful time of his life now for the ages. Udo will be making the journey to Miami with us too, learning the tricks of the trade from a very early age!
Each year we are faced with issues relating to our location and whether or not we want to stay. Its a hard issue to face, we absolutely love our space and how it allows us to put forth our exhibitions. This year we've begun seriously looking at the prospect of acquiring a property and moving the gallery in order to increase the attributes of our program but also enhance the experience for our clients and community. We feel we've found that location and are excited to unveil the plans to everyone as we get closer to bringing it to fruition. We can't guarantee it will happen, but we are working hard for it and know that it will be an amazing project if completed.
We are extremely thankful to our interns, they've made life at the gallery so much better than it would be otherwise and particularly eased the burden of life with a new child. Most of you have had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful crew that has been with us this year; though it is generally a temporary situation, our interns are crucial to our success and add a great dimension to every visit to the gallery.
We wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving holiday and thank you again for your support and belief in our efforts!
